Frequently Asked Questions

Schedule a Free Inspection

Get peace of mind with our complimentary, no-obligation roofing inspection.

How do I know if I need a new roof?

If your shingles are curling, missing, or you’re noticing leaks or water stains inside, it might be time for a new roof. We offer free inspections to help you know for sure.

What types of shingles do you install?

We install premium architectural shingles from GAF, Malarkey, IKO, and CertainTeed — all brands we’re certified with. We also specialize in Fortified Roofing systems. Besides these shingle options, we also offer metal roofing systems, clay tile, and F-Wave and EuroShield.

What is a fortified roof and why does it matter?

A Fortified Roof is built to withstand extreme weather and can reduce insurance premiums. We’re one of the few Fortified Certified contractors in Frisco, TX.

Do you help with insurance claims?

Yes. We work directly with homeowners and insurance companies to make the claim process easier and more transparent.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most roofs are completed in 1 day. Weather permitting, we start early and finish clean.

Will my property be protected during the project?

Absolutely. We use the Catch-All landscape protection kit, tarp systems, and magnet sweeps to leave your property clean and damage-free.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, we offer financing options to make your roof more affordable. Ask us about our flexible payment plans.

Are your roofers licensed and insured?

Texas doesn’t require roofing licenses, but we go above and beyond with certifications, liability insurance, and references from satisfied customers to make you feel comfortable hiring us.

Do you offer free inspections or estimates?

Yes! Every inspection is 100% free, with no pressure and no sketchy tactics.

Why choose OneSource Roofing over other companies?

Because “Roofing is shady… but we bring the sunshine.” We’re certified, clean, and committed to service.

What’s the difference between 3-tab and architectural shingles?

3-tab shingles are flat and uniform, while architectural shingles are thicker, layered, and more durable — offering better curb appeal and longer warranties.

What Is synthetic underlayment, and why is it better than felt paper?

Synthetic underlayment is a modern roofing barrier that’s lighter, stronger, and more water-resistant than traditional felt.

What is Ridge Vent Ventilation, and do I need it?

Ridge vents allow hot air and moisture to escape from your attic, reducing strain on HVAC systems and extending the life of your shingles. We can take a ventilation calculation of your attic and intake to determine the best ventilation for your roof.

What Is flashing and why is it important?

Flashing is metal that directs water away from critical areas like chimneys, valleys, skylights, and walls. Poor flashing is a common cause of leaks.

Can you install impact-resistant shingles to help with hail?

Yes — we offer Class 3 and Class 4 impact-rated shingles, which can better withstand hailstorms and may qualify you for insurance discounts. Ask us about hail proof roofing systems, which can perform even better than standard Class 3 and Class 4 architectural shingles.

What is ice and water shield, and do I need it in texas?

Ice and water shield is a self-sealing underlayment for vulnerable areas. Ice and water shield protects against water intrusion and ice damming in the winter.

Do you install drip edge, and is it required by code?

Yes — drip edge is required by most building codes and protects the edge of the roof. We often recommend it to be replaced.

How thick is the decking you install if replacement is needed?

We use 7/16" OSB plywood depending on your local code and structure. Older or non-code decking is upgraded as needed.

What kind of nails do you use? Staples or hand nailing?

We use coil roofing nails with pneumatic nailers — never staples — and follow strict manufacturer guidelines.

What is a Fortified Roof?

A FORTIFIED Roof is part of a national program by IBHS to strengthen homes against high winds and hail using upgraded materials and techniques.

What is the H.B. 2102 Texas Deductible Law?

This law makes it illegal for contractors to waive or absorb your deductible. You are required to pay it —and contractors must follow the law. If it simply cannot be paid by the homeowner, we have financing options available.

Can a roofing contractor legally waive my insurance deductible?

No. Under H.B. 2102, waiving deductibles is illegal. If a contractor offers to do so, it’s a red flag.

Will a new roof lower my insurance premiums?

Often yes, especially with Fortified or Class 4 impact-resistant roofs. We can help you provide documentation to your insurer.

Do I have to get multiple roofing estimates for insurance claims?

No. You can choose any qualified contractor. Your insurance sets the scope, and we make sure the work is done right.

What does ‘Scope of Loss’ mean in roofing insurance claims?

It’s the insurance document outlining the damages, repairs, and what they’ll pay for. We review it to ensure accuracy.

What’s the difference between ACV and RCV in my insurance policy?

ACV (Actual Cash Value) subtracts depreciation. RCV (Replacement Cost Value) pays the full cost of a new roof, minus your deductible.

Do you work with realtors and insurance agents?

Yes. We frequently help during transactions or insurance claims by providing inspections, documentation, and fast turnarounds. We are a preferred roofer with Keller Williams, Century 21, and Simply Texas. We also work directly with many local insurance agents as a trusted roofer that they refer.

How do I prepare my home before a roof replacement?

Move vehicles, secure loose wall items, and let neighbors know. We handle protection and clean-up.

What sets OneSource apart from other roofers in DFW?

We’re certified with GAF, Malarkey, IKO, CertainTeed, and FORTIFIED. We’re clean, compliant, and committed to service.
